How Gay and Lesbian Polygamy is Legal in the United States.

We have outlawed polygamy in the United States of America,  however today there is a new loophole that provides Gays and Lesbians the opportunity to actually legally have the right to practice same sex polygamy. Same-sex marriage in the United States is not recognized by the federal government, but such marriages are recognized by six states. The lack of federal recognition was codified in 1996 by the Defense of Marriage Act, before Massachusetts became the first state to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples in 2004. Such licenses are granted by six states: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont, plus Washington, D.C. and Oregon’s Coquille and Washington state’s Suquamish Indian tribes. The states of Washington[1] andMaryland[2] have passed laws in 2012 to begin granting same-sex marriage licenses, but each may be delayed or derailed by November 2012 voter referendums.

Under the new state laws and lack of federal for this group Gay and Lesbians can legally marry one partner in one state and be married to other partners in other states since there is no federal recognition of marriage rights.

Breakingthenewsbarrier:  What is it like to legally have six wives in the United States and do they all know about each other?

 

Lesbian Polygamist: Yes all my wives are aware of each other and our legal boundries of marriage. Lesbians have a tendency to succeed in family orientated relationships and we all support each other. My biggest issue is jet lag.  

Breakingthenewsbarrier: What made you decide to marry six women?

 

Lesbian Polygamist: Same sex marriage is now legal in six states in the United States. Each of the six states  practice their own autonomy regarding same sex marriage and I have no federal obligations to marry only once nor do I have federal rights to protect marriage as a plural entity. 

 

Breakingthenewsbarrier: Do you know of others who are engaging in multiple same sex marriages?

Lesbian Polygamist:  I dont not know of anyone else at this point but I do know that unless same sex marriage becomes under the federal umbrella others will engage in same sex polygamist marriage.
